WORKING WITH TEENAGERS

The teenage years are a transformative yet challenging time. Navigating identity, family and social roles, sexuality, and academic pressures, while undergoing rapid physical and mental changes, can be intense. Teens also exhibit newfound creativity, philosophical exploration, and openness to ideas—qualities that align well with therapy focused on insight and self-understanding.

I enjoy working with adolescents, ages 10 through their twenties, understanding that brain development continues into the mid- to late-twenties. My experience spans residential treatment, crisis intervention, and identity exploration. I have helped teens dealing with suicidal thoughts, self-harm, trauma, and high family stress or conflict.

Therapy for teenagers is most effective when combined with family therapy. Depending on the preferences of the teen and their family, I may provide both individual and family therapy or collaborate with another therapist for family work.
